Both Yuki Tsunoda and Gabriel Bortoleto were investigated for red flag infringements after FP3 of the Canadian Grand Prix. The stewards have now revealed their verdicts for the two drivers.
Tsunoda overtook Oscar Piastri under red flag was conditions. That was because the Australian hit the Wall of Champions on the lap before, and left too much debris in the final chicane.
As a result, he receives a 10-place grid and two penalty points on his super license, similarly to the penalty Oliver Bearman received for the same incident at the Monaco GP.
It was already a difficult Saturday for the Japanese driver, as he finished in P20 in FP3, even as he now has the same equipment as Max Verstappen. Meanwhile, the Dutchman set the fifth quickest time of the session, and was only a couple of tenths slower than Lando Norris.
Gabriel Bortoleto was not given the same penalty as the Japanese driver. Right after the red flag was first waved, the Sauber driver was overtaking Oliver Bearman. It would have been hard for the Brazilian to avoid making such a maneouvre, therefore, he was not penalised.
