FIA make changes in Mexico City: DRS zone reduced

The FIA have announced a change ahead of the upcoming Mexico Grand Prix. One of the DRS zones is now shorter compared to last year's event.

The federation intervene after in 2023, overtaking proved to be a bit too easy for the drivers on the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez's main straight. Documents from the governing body show that the DRS zone on the main straight is now 75 metres shorter than it was last season. The activation point will also change, as that will be after 240 metres instead of 165.

What remains the same is that there still will be three DRS zones at the Mexican circuit. Besides the one on the main straight, there there are two others between Turns 3-4 and Turns 11-12. The drag reduction system can be activated 115m after the corner in the second zone, while it can be activated after 80 metres in the third.

There are only two DRS detection points on track, giving the driver who's a second behind a chance to use this tool. The same driver gets to use DRS in the first two zones, due to the proximity of the two DRS zones to one another. Therefore, if a driver gets the move done into the first three corners, they will have the chance to form a gap to his rival behind.
