Dangerous situation during Albon's pit stop due to fans in pit lane

Alexander Albon delivered an impressive performance in the Australian Grand Prix by driving the entire race on the same set of tires and only making his mandatory pit stop on the last lap. Security, however, left something to be desired....

The organization allowed fans into the pits while the final lap was already running, as can be seen on the onboard footage of his car. This could have gone very wrong: not only was it life-threatening, but the fans could also have slowed the driver down to such an extent that he lost his first point of the season.

It seems to be customary for VIP guests to be allowed into the pit lane on the last lap, but this does not take into account any unplanned pit stops. Perhaps a good time for the FIA to review this tradition after all.
