Wolff speaks up for Verstappen: 'We heard it at Silverstone too'

There has been a lot of fuss recently about the booing during Formula 1 Grands Prix. It also seems that cheering at crashes is becoming more common, something that Toto Wolff would like to see disappear from the sport.

Max Verstappen could expect a lot of boos from the British fans when he spoke at Silverstone a week ago. The Dutch fans reacted to that on Friday when Lewis Hamilton parked his Mercedes in the wall in qualifying in Austria. Wolff thinks booing is a bad development.

"Booing is not right in any sport," Wolff is quoted by FormulaPassion.it as saying in the press conference. "We teams fight, but booing is a personal attack on the driver." Yesterday Mercedes drivers were the target after both Hamilton and George Russell crashed in qualifying.

Wolff also disapproves of the booing of Verstappen. "We heard them at Silverstone too and they were not good," says the Austrian about it. Wolff says passion in the sport is good, but that it is important that it remains sporting.
