Wolff saw Ferrari make big steps: 'Last year they weren't competitive'

Toto Wolff does not believe that Mercedes' power unit has a major disadvantage compared to the other manufacturers, despite its disappointing performance at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

While the factory team finished third and fourth after the late retirement of both Red Bull drivers, the remaining six Mercedes-powered cars crossed the finish line last. However, Wolff believes that the disappointing performance has more to do with the set-up than the power unit.

"I think we need to analyze the drag levels first before we really make a judgment of whether we are lacking power," says the Mercedes team boss according to Racer.com. According to Wolff, there is no major difference between Mercedes' engines and those of Ferrari, which currently seems to have the fastest power unit.

The Austrian notes the great progress made at Ferrari as interesting. "Last year they were not totally competitive, and if you look at Bahrain it looks as if they outperformed everyone else," Wolff notes.
