Mercedes might have hoped for more than a sixth and eighth starting place for the Monaco Grand Prix, but Toto Wolff can live with the result given the small differences with Max Verstappen's pole time. At the same time, he realises that Lewis Hamilton and George Russell may need a minor miracle on Sunday to get far forward.
Prior to qualifying, work was needed on Hamilton's car, which was damaged in his late crash during the third free practice session. "The important thing is that the car goes straight after the technical change, and it does," Wolff began in conversation with ServusTV.
"P6 and P8 are not what we want, but we are three-tenths away from pole. That shows we have something to start working on. The drivers say the car is steering well, which is pleasing," the Mercedes team boss continued.

However, he knows that a podium finish is basically out of the question for his drivers unless a very unlikely scenario occurs. "Unless it snows unexpectedly tomorrow, everyone will drive comfortably to the finish. Or we have a safety car at a good or bad time," Wolff said.
