Will Newey change paths at Aston Martin? 'It's a resource split'

Aston Martin has had a rocky start to the season. Lance Stroll has scored a few points, while Fernando Alonso has finished only one race so far. Their performance is not as consistent as they would like. Mike Krack, former team principal and current Chief Trackside Officer, answered to GPBlog and others on whether Adrian Newey is focusing solely on the 2026 car.
Regarding Aston Martin's current performance and upgrades, Krack said, "Normally, as soon as the season starts, journalists ask about upgrades and the upgrade race is on. We haven’t seen that over the past years. We're not in a hurry. We want to look at it properly."
He continued, "There is some stuff in the pipeline. We will bring them when they are ready. As I said, it's sometimes better also that you consolidate a little bit where you are to understand your car and then move on from there. So they are in the pipeline, they will come soon."

Krack on Newey's responsibilities at Aston Martin

Newey has been working at Aston Martin for a little over a month now. The former Red Bull Racing chief technical officer joined Aston Martin and has been focusing on next year's regulation changes and the car. When asked if Newey should also work on the 2025 car, Krack replied, "I don’t know. It’s something that, again, it's a resource split. He has started quite late for the 2025 car, and the concentration is on 2026."
