Vietnam race possible by 2020

F1 has confirmed that they are looking to add a Vietnam Grand Prix to the calendar, with the earliest date likely to be 2020.

Liberty Media are keen to expand the F1 calendar to up to 25 races a year and also want to entertain the idea of expanding to the Asian market.

F1 has already attempted to crack into the Asian market, although races in India, Korea and more recently Malaysia have been removed from the calendar for one reason or another.

Liberty’s next port of call is Vietnam’s capital city, Hanoi. Vietnam have been in talks with F1 bosses since last year and are understood to be eager to host their own race.

The Hanoi circuit would be on the streets on the city, so would be sure to provide a good test for the drivers and their cars.

F1 commercial chief Sean Bratches believes that a Vietnam Grand Prix is a real possibility: “We think Hanoi could come on in the next couple of years, and we’re working with the Hanoi government to that end.
