Vettel happy with new recruit: 'Helps us to achieve what we want'

Former McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh will join the Aston Martin team as Group CEO. Sebastian Vettel is delighted with Whitmarsh's arrival and praises him as a strong asset to the team.

Whitmarsh will look after Aston Martin's new Performance Technologies division. Four-time world champion Vettel reveals he has every confidence in Aston Martin's new acquisition to become a team that can compete for the title.

"I know Martin from just when he left, I started more or less in Formula 1," Vettel tells Autosport.com. "I’ve never worked with him and I don’t know him good enough to judge. So I think we need to be open-minded. Obviously, we expected to strengthen the team, otherwise, there is no point signing new people or adding people to the team."

“I think it looks like a strong recruitment, and hopefully helps us to achieve what we want to achieve in the future", Vettel finishes. Whitmarsh was involved with McLaren for a long time when they were successful at the top. Aston Martin's new recruit seems like a good step towards the top.
