Vettel engages in a different kind of battle: 'We must be aware of that'

The German put an end to his career in Formula 1 in 2022 after winning four world titles with Red Bull Racing in a hugely successful career that ended at Aston Martin. Since then, Vettel has been active in the fight against climate change.

Vettel has been an activist surrounding climate change ever since he retired from the sport. He dedicated himself to the liveability of bees and, in 2023, took action for the animal in Suzuka, by setting up two bee hotels.

Now, Vettel is shifting his focus and is focusing on the biodiversity in the water, as can be seen in a video from Greenpeace on Instagram.

“Today it's about the brown porpoise, which is characteristic of the Baltic Sea. It's the only native species we have in Germany. The animals are threatened; there are not many left. It's important to be aware of this and to show what's not going well in the Baltic Sea and what one could do better. But also how the future of these animals can be improved, so they can continue to exist", Vettel explained.

With Vettel continuing to be a major activist in this field, he has been talking about ways to make sure the sport of F1 is able to continue amidst the climate crisis.

The German is in favour of electrification and the use of carbon-neutral fuels in Formula 1. However, he recently criticised the new cars of 2026. He was of the opinion that next year's cars are still too heavy and need to be lighter to save fuel and promote racing.
