Lots of support for Tsunoda: 'Never felt this much support'

With a strong performance in qualifying, Yuki Tsunoda managed to secure a ninth starting position. Driving his home race this weekend, the AlphaTauri driver is thoroughly enjoying the many enthusiastic Japanese fans. Tsunoda is delighted by the many support and is proud of his strong qualifying. The Japanese is also looking forward to the race.

Tsunoda visibly enjoyed his result after qualifying, but perhaps even more so the many fans who cheered him on. Speaking to Viaplay, he indicated: "Yeah, it's great. The crowds and support I felt here is definitely special. I’ve never felt this much support and excitement. When we get closer to Q3, the cheering starts to get more and more. That was great and that was an unforgettable qualifying."

The AlphaTauri driver drove the AT04 to Q3 and grabbed ninth position. Tsunoda is happy with that result, especially after a difficult Friday: "It wasn’t easy because we struggled in Free Practice on Friday, but the team did an amazing job of finding improvements. The car was great and really fun to drive, so I’m looking forward to tomorrow." Tsunoda says he will especially enjoy all his fans during the race.

Before the start of qualifying, AlphaTauri announced their driver selection for 2024. Tsunoda and Ricciardo will appear on the grid for the Italian team next year. So for the Japanese driver, Saturday at Suzuka was an extra-happy day:"I was able to announce my contract for next year as well, so I think today was a really good day."
