Trouble for Sainz: Ferrari finds leak in fuel pump and replaces chassis

Carlos Sainz has not had an easy ride this year. The Spaniard has already suffered technical problems with his F1-75 and is now in trouble again: Ferrari have found a leak in the fuel system of his car and have decided to change Sainz' chassis.

When starting the engine after arriving at Silverstone, Ferrari discovered a leak in Sainz's fuel pump. As a precaution, the team opted to replace the F1-75 chassis with one that has already been in track action this season. It is not a completely new chassis, the Italian branch of Motorsport.com reported.

It is not the first time this season that Ferrari have changed Sainz' chassis. At the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona the team did the same for the same reason: the F1-75 also suffered from a fuel problem.

The first of the three pumps that make up the fuel system, the low pressure fuel pump from Marelli, is said to have failed. The second intake pump in the system is classified as Open Source (OSC) and was made by the teams. The third is a high-pressure pump supplied by Bosch. As replacing the pump is too complicated a job to be done in the pits, it was decided to use the spare chassis.
