The President of F1, Jean Todt, claims he is happy to drop the heat energy technology if it will attract new manufacturers. It’s removal could be part of the 2021 regulation shake-up.
Over half of the electrical energy an F1 car uses comes from the MGU-H. Todt described this as a “beautiful piece of art, of technology.”
“I hear it’s maybe not what the fans are expecting and it’s not something which is absolutely needed to have a good championship,” said Todt.
“So I think it’s important we can learn out of it and propose something which is more simple.”
The regulation shake-up is set to arrive in 2021 and partly aimed at bringing in new manufactures as well as cutting costs for the current teams.

Todt knows full well if he is to attract new members, Liberty Media must allow for team benefits. And that includes profits on road cars.
“(Motorsport has to be) a laboratory for the manufactures, a laboratory for the teams and a laboratory which can be profitable on road cars as much as we can,” added Todt.
