Journalist apologises after 'rumour': 'I'm very sorry'

For days, Formula 1 was dominated by 'the rumour'. What exactly was going on, no one knows. At least, only Spanish journalist Albert Fabrega does. He put up a post on X last week, reporting he had 'heard something he didn't want to believe'.

This post was subsequently viewed millions of times, and the speculation had begun. It was soon thought online that a pre-existing rumour - namely Sergio Perez's swap with Fernando Alonso in the '24 season - was what Fabrega was referring to.

Alonso was by no means happy about the rumour and said there would be "consequences" for certain people. Names were not mentioned by the Aston Martin Spaniard. So whether he was referring to Fabrega is unclear. However, it is now certain that Fabrega has taken his original post offline. He has since also sent a new post into the world, in which he emphatically apologises. Fabrega said: "I want to apologize for my tweets about the rumor I heard in the paddock. It was a mistake and I apologize to anyone I may have caused…"

Incidentally, Red Bull Spain also responded to the rumour with a witty emoji (a face with a zip as a mouth). This post has also been deleted.
