Shooting of Hamilton and Pitt's F1 film restarts, release date named

Fans will have to be patient longer before they can see the Formula 1 film Apex, that much is clear after the announcement that filming will continue until the end of 2024. Due to a strike by the Screen Actors' Guild and Writers' Guild of America's, filming came to a prolonged halt last year. It has now been announced that shooting will resume (and partly redo), with a view to releasing the film by the end of summer in '25.

As a producer, Lewis Hamilton is one of the driving forces behind the project, which stars Brad Pitt (60). The American plays a retired racing driver who is asked to take a young talent under his wing in Formula 1. Naturally, everyone is curious to see whether Pitt manages to transform the young talent into a winning F1 driver.

During the 2023 season, Pitt and the film crew were present during several Grand Prix weekends to shoot footage, including with converted F2 cars that served as F1 cars. It later emerged that footage had also been shot during the strike and was therefore banned from use by the US union.

So there will be a retake of shots in 2024. Pitt and consorts will be guests at Silverstone again this year for filming, as well as in Hungary, Brazil and Abu Dhabi, the Daily Mail reports. If all goes to plan, a film will be in cinemas by the end of summer 2025.
