The five-second time penalty cost Sergio Perez a podium finish in Abu Dhabi, but he was spared further suffering. The Red Bull Racing Mexican had to come to the stewards after the Grand Prix because of statements made over the team radio. Indeed, he allegedly called the stewards "a joke". A formal warning is the same stewards' response to Perez's statement.

Sergio Perez has since apologised to the stewards for his comments, telling them that they had been made in the heat of the moment. He also said he did not realise the words would be broadcast on television. The apology was accepted by the stewards.
