Sainz proud of own performance in Italy GP: "It was a great recovery".

Carlos Sainz had the unenviable task of starting from the back of the grid in the Italian Grand Prix. The Spaniard was able to overtake his predecessors very quickly and eventually finished in fourth place. Afterwards Sainz paid a big compliment to Ferrari on Viaplay.

The driver hoped before the race that he would be able to finish in the points, but he did not count on being able to move up to the front so quickly. The feeling is positive. "It was a great recovery," is how Sainz summarises his race.

Ferrari hoped to celebrate a victory in front of the home fans, but that proved to be too much. In the end it was Max Verstappen who took the win, while Charles Leclerc had to settle for second place.

As Ferrari disappointed in Belgium and the Netherlands after the summer break, Sainz believes his team did a great job at the Monza circuit. "I think we can be proud of how we reacted as a team after a couple of difficult weekends," he said.
