Russell speaks out about England football team's World Cup chances

The Formula 1 season came to an end in November, but there is still plenty of sport on television in 2022. For instance, the World Cup in football is in full swing, with England still in with a chance of winning the tournament. George Russell is confident of that.

At the 2022 Autosport Awards, the Briton was among the winners. The driver received the Moment of the Year Award for this season's Brazilian Grand Prix, in which he won both the sprint race and main race for Mercedes.

Sky Sports decided to ask him a question about the English football team on Sunday night in between. Indeed, the country was playing the eighth final against Senegal at the time. The team eventually managed to win the match 3-0, facing France in the quarter-finals.

Russell expects his country to go far in the tournament. The Mercedes driver even has faith that England can win the world championship. "I believe in them," he made a clear statement on camera. The final in Qatar is scheduled for Sunday 18 December.
