Renault need to do better if they are to target podiums in 2020

It has been far from Daniel Ricciardo's finest season in Formula 1 and even he has admitted the Renault team must improve if they want to achieve their 2020 aims.
Ricciardo has had mixed results during his first twelve races with Renault with a best result of sixth coming at the Canadian Grand Prix but he has suffered four DNFs this season.
Ricciardo left Red Bull and joined Renault after the constructor finished best of the rest in 2018. However, they have been unable to replicate that form and are behind McLaren and Toro Rosso in the Constructors' Championship.
Ricciardo was very honest in his assessment of their form so far and admitted they must improve if they want to target podiums next year.
“So if I look at Canada, the qualifying, I’d actually say that exceeded probably some expectation in the first few races, but then obviously some other races like Austria, that was lower than our expectations," he told Motorsport.com.

“So we bounced around in between everything really, but now at this halfway point, I think we could say, alright, we need to do better, if we want to be on target for podiums in 2020, we need to start making bigger steps for the second half of the year."
