Red Bull Racing team principal, Laurent Mekies, has admitted he was not surprised by the struggles faced by Scuderia Ferrari during the 2025 season.
"I wouldn't say I'm surprised. F1 is extremely competitive."

The 48-year-old highlighted how narrow the line between success and failure had become during the final years of the ground-effect regulations, before concluding by wishing the Italian outfit well.
"I wouldn't say I'm surprised. F1 is extremely competitive. The line between success and failure is thin, especially this year, where a few tenths made the difference. I wish Ferrari all the best,” Mekies said via Corriere della Sera.

The 2025 season turned out to be a truly challenging campaign for the Ferrari outfit. The Maranello-based team failed to record any Grand Prix victories, achieving only seven podium finishes across the 24-race season.

Mekies on why he left Ferrari

Earlier, Mekies revealed the reason behind his departure from the Ferrari team. The French motorsports chief had served as Sporting Director at the Prancing Horse since joining them in 2018.
However, Mekies announced his departure in July 2023 after he was offered a Team Principal role at the Faenza-based team, Racing Bulls – an opportunity he admitted he wasn’t going to turn down.

Mekies has since transitioned to the Team Principal role at Red Bull Racing, replacing Christian Horner, who was dismissed days following the British Grand Prix.
