Red Bull first respond to rumours of failed crash test RB20

Recently, rumours surfaced about the development of the RB20, which allegedly failed the first crash test. It was brought as a major setback for Red Bull Racing, but Helmut Marko dismisses that suggestion as major nonsense.

Red Bull's new Formula 1 car failed the FIA's first crash test, according to reports. The reason is said to be a weakness in the structure of the nose, which meant Adrian Newey and his technical staff had to work hard again to make the part more stable. Rival teams Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren reportedly did pass the crash test.

Asked about the result of the crash test, Helmut Marko does not deny that Red Bull's F1 car did not pass it. However, the Austrian advisor thinks all the commotion around it is unnecessary. "Ridiculous. If we had passed the first crash test, only then would there have been a problem. Then we would have done a bad job," he explains to F1-Insider.com.

So the RB20 will be fine according to Marko. Given Red Bull's strong position, the F1 team may be able to afford to take bigger risks in developing the new car. There were also rumours of a failed crash test of the RB19 last year: if that is to be a harbinger for the RB20, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez's team indeed have nothing to worry about.
