Red Bull exits German DTM series

Besides Formula 1, Red Bull is active in several motorsport classes. The brand also featured in the German DTM series for the past two seasons. That is now coming to an end, as Red Bull is quitting with that racing team with immediate effect.

Red Bull had previously agreed to continue in the DTM, with AF Corse entering two Ferrari 296 GT3 cars in 2023. But the DTM underwent a surprise change of ownership over the winter, with Gerhard Berger selling the promotional rights to German motoring club ADAC. For Red Bull, that prompted it to quit, reports Motorsport-Total. AF Corse is also likely to quit.

Red Bull joined the DTM in 2021 mainly because of Berger. The Austrian was once the first driver to be sponsored by the brand. Since then, there was a long relationship between the two. For instance, Berger was once co-owner of the then Toro Rosso for a year. Recently, he hinted that Red Bull could well leave. "Red Bull is very attached to me as a person because of the almost 40-year partnership," Berger said. "Therefore, that could well be the case. That decision is now up to Red Bull."

It was expected that Nick Cassidy and Felipe Fraga would enter the season in the DTM with Red Bull. It is likely that they will now not return to the series either. Cassidy has already found a place in Formula E.
