Longest time between two world titles in F1: can Alonso do it?

Fernando Alonso is a true Formula 1 veteran, but the intention to stop is far from over. This year, the two-time world champion can break a lot of records in the king class of motorsport: GPblog lists them.

Alonso already holds the record for race starts: no fewer than 355 times the 41-year-old Spaniard has been at the start of a Grand Prix. At Silverstone, he also broke the record for the greatest distance covered in F1. The counter stood at 92,643 kilometres after the Great Britain GP.

In the 2023 F1 season too, the two-time world champion can break a number of records. For instance, he can become the first driver to have driven in 20 seasons and the first to have completed 20,000 laps. Moreover, he can become the first driver to finish 300 races.

A possible record Alonso undoubtedly has ears for is the longest time elapsed between two world titles. He won his second title with Renault in 2006, but he has already made it more than clear that he intends to add a third world title to his name. He hopes to fulfil that ambition with Aston Martin, where he will spend the next few years as Lance Stroll's teammate.
