F1 Provisional Starting Grid | Mexico: Verstappen ahead of rival Norris

Carlos Sainz will start Sunday's Mexico City Grand Prix from pole position, after the Spaniard set a great lap in Q3 a day before. Unfortunately for the Spaniard, the longest lead up to the first corner on the first corner awaits him this afternoon, with Max Verstappen and Lando Norris right behind him on the grid.

Ferrari showed great pace at the Circuit of the Americas last week, and they did a job of keeping their tyres alive for a longer period, that also lead to Sainz undercutting Verstappen last weekend. Still, for the race in Mexico, if a driver starts inside the Top 4, they can have a shot at taking the lead into Turn 1. Together with the two Ferraris, Max Verstappen and Lando Norris can once again lock horns early on.

The Mercedes drivers line up on the third row of the grid. Kevin Magnussen, Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon could also impress in qualifying, as they all made it through to Q3, while for example Fernando Alonso missed out on that in his 400th Grand Prix. The Spaniard will start the Grand Prix from P13.

After a terrible qualifying session, Oscar Piastri and Sergio Perez will start together from the ninth row of the grid, after both were eliminated in Q1.
