George Russell managed more miles at Magny-Cours today [Wednesday] than Mick Schumacher did on Tuesday. During a wet test for Pirelli, the Mercedes driver achieved 85 laps. In doing so, he gathered the necessary data for the Italian tyre supplier.
Pirelli wants to improve its rain tyres before 2025, which is why it has been testing at the French circuit for the past two days. On Tuesday, however, it was too wet to collect useful data, so Schumacher drove only 29 laps.
The tyre manufacturer learned much more at a cool Magny-Cours on Wednesday, testing on both intermediates and full wets. Russell drove 374.9 kilometres and recorded 1:28.428 as the fastest lap time.
Next week, on Tuesday and Wednesday, two more test days are scheduled for Pirelli. This will be at Mugello. Three teams will be present there: Red Bull Racing and Ferrari will test the rubber for next season, while McLaren will be called in to develop the 2026 tyres.
