Penalty for Red Bull backed: 'There are mitigating circumstances'

Red Bull Racing was penalised on Friday for exceeding its budget ceiling. Together with the FIA, the team agreed to pay a USD7 million fine, while also being allowed to spend 10 per cent less time in the wind tunnel. Martin Brundle is behind the deal, he told Sky Sports.

According to the former Formula 1 driver, the FIA has made a clear statement towards other teams. "I think it's about right, perhaps slightly light. There are mitigating circumstances. I think it works out okay. There are no winners," he informed the English medium.

Several teams believe that Red Bull had a sporting advantage and therefore the organisation should have intervened more harshly. However, Brundle is almost certain that the world titles in 2021 and 2022 will not come directly from the failure to comply with financial regulations.
