Mol points out detail in Newey contract: 'Retirement is more obvious'

Formula One commentator Olav Mol suspects that retirement could be the most logical option for Adrian Newey should he decide to leave Red Bull Racing. This is because the top designer's contract may not allow him to join a rival team before 2027.

According to Mol, Newey may not be able to join another F1 team as early as 2026, even if he leaves after this season. The commentator expects that retirement might be an obvious possibility for that reason, also given that Red Bull Racing's CTO will be approaching 70 by then.

"Should Adrian Newey decide to leave Red Bull: contract what he has is until 2025, plus then also a one-year non-compete clause. So he would not be able to work for another team until 2027 i.m.o. Opting for retirement might be more obvious," Mol writes on X, formerly Twitter.

Newey is mostly associated with Ferrari and was even spotted near Maranello recently. The 65-year-old Briton himself previously said that he had been in doubt about a move to the Italian racing team in the past, but did not see the move with his family at the time. He said it would always be a tempting idea to work for the iconic Scuderia.
