Verstappen doesn't believe in it: 'At most one more win in 2024'

Max Verstappen did once again what he needs to do the most: finish ahead of Lando Norris in every meaningful session. The Dutchman completed just that in qualifying for the Mexico City Grand Prix as well, and will start from the first row of the grid. However, in terms of getting on the top step of the podium in the current season, Verstappen is not that confident.
After a dominant 2023 and winning many Grands Prix early on in 2024, Verstappen is winless since the Spanish GP. Since that event in Barcelona, the Dutchman could only win two Sprints in Austria and at COTA. In Austin after a great Saturday, the RB20 was clearly behind the two Ferrari cars, and looking at only car performance, McLaren should have finished ahead of them as well.

Verstappen has little hope

"In Austin, I thought I could win again," said Verstappen to Dagblad de Limburger and others. "That's just a good circuit for us. I think it has to be really lucky if we want to get another win somewhere this year. Qatar might be a good circuit, but I think McLaren is even better there. So yeah..."
Of course, Verstappen would like to get back to winning ways in Mexico, however, he has to have a different target in mind given the state of play in the drivers' championship. "I want to, but I just don't know. And yes, if that's not possible, then we have to focus on Lando." Verstappen start from P2 on the grid on Sunday, while Norris will line up in P3.
