After the Spanish Grand Prix, Verstappen said he "will bring some tissues next time" for Russell, but the day after he did apologise after all, explaining it should not have happened.

Team principal Christian Horner also shared Verstappen offered his apologies during the team briefing.

Both the incident and Verstappen's apology provoked many reactions online. This also led to a fake tweet by the Red Bull driver, what was created by an unanimous user.

“I understand that, without my agreement, Red Bull Racing, have put out a press release late this afternoon that I said that the move on George Russell was "not right and shouldn't have happened." This is wrong, and I have not apologized for that collision. I will get a race ban this year”, reads the fake message shared on Reddit.

The fake post was obviously based on the viral post of Oscar Piastri. In 2022, Alpine announced the Australian as their driver for the '23 season, but he denied that with a social media post.

"I understand that, without my agreement, Alpine F1 have put out a press release late this afternoon that I am driving for them next year. This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. I will not be driving for Alpine next year," the current McLaren driver wrote at the time.
