Bishop wants more equality in F1: 'Hamilton is making good statements'

Lewis Hamilton has already indicated he will not back down from his statements on human rights, despite being banned from these statements by the FIA. Former McLaren head of communications Matt Bishop is calling on the other Formula 1 drivers to also raise their voices in support of equality.

Hamilton has been unwavering and unparalleled in his willingness to raise human rights issues. Bishop, who previously worked with Hamilton at Mercedes, helped establish Racing Pride in support of the LGBTQ+ community in motorsport.

"Obviously I don't know what it's like to be a Black man, but I am a gay man and both of those things are extremely rare in Formula 1," Bishop said in an interview with Sky Sports. He thinks the struggle with equality is waning as Sebastian Vettel has left Formula 1.

The FIA's rule to ensure that drivers do not make political, religious or social statements hardly seems to be taken seriously by drivers. The rule states that in future, drivers must be allowed to make such statements.
