Marko claims Red Bull made no request for a Mercedes wing check at all

Red Bull Racing is said to have made a request to the FIA to recheck Mercedes' front wing. The Austrian racing stable reportedly suspects that the Silver Arrows' front wing is too flexible. Red Bull chief advisor Helmut Marko told this to Oe24 and mentioned that the rumours are not true.

Mercedes has had a new front wing since the Monaco Grand Prix. It seemed to be a good improvement on the previous one, especially in Canada. George Russell took pole position and also secured the first podium finish of the season for Mercedes.

Last week, it was rumoured that Red Bull had requested the FIA to check the front wing again. However, Marko says, "You can't say that. They have a new front wing, and on the images on TV, you can clearly see that Russell and [Lewis] Hamilton's wings were flexing. However, the wings had the required clearance when they were approved. That doesn't surprise me. I don't know how many times we had to check our wings."

When asked next what this means for Mercedes, Marko replied, "Everything was OK in Montreal. There will be another inspection in Barcelona and in Spielberg and so on. Then everything should be OK again. Of course, it is also true that the competition is also looking at it critically. We are not alone in that."
