Leclerc still wary despite pole: "Red Bull quick in long runs"

Charles Leclerc has secured pole position for the 2022 Australian Grand Prix. The World Championship leader will have to attack the Red Bull Racing cars alone, with teammate Carlos Sainz qualifying down in P9. Leclerc has both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez breathing down his neck.

Despite securing the pole position, Leclerc remains cautious of both Red Bull. In his interview following qualifying, Leclerc acknowledged how Red Bull looked good on the long runs in the second free practice session on Friday.

"It feels great and happy to be starting on pole for tomorrow. Yeah, the car is nice to drive. Red Bull looked quick in FP2 during long fuel run. Everything is possible tomorrow, just need to do a good start," Leclerc said.

Leclerc becomes only the second driver to secure pole position during the hybrid era at Albert Park, with Lewis Hamilton managing the feat on all previous occasions. "It felt good. Even more so because it's a track where I've struggled as a past as a driver," Leclerc added.
