Maffei on Las Vegas GP: 'There will be a lot more sponsor interest'

The two Grands Prix in America have already received buckets of criticism. Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei believes the Las Vegas Grand Prix will garner considerable recognition given its visual appeal. Tickets for the weekend in Las Vegas were already high, but Maffei sees few problems.

Some fans have objected to the purpose of the Nevada race, saying the huge ticket prices and emphasis on hospitality and entertainment suggests a different target audience. Maffei admits that Vegas could be an extremely lucrative race for Liberty, but he says the focus should be on the success of the event for all involved.

"We also thought that Vegas was a great opportunity for all the reasons we’ve talked about economically, but also it’s a great showcase," Maffei said in an interview with Racer. "A night race on the Strip that will be iconic. There will also be a lot more sponsor interest," added the Liberty Media CEO.
