Kevin Magnussen has had an unusual path into Formula 1. After success in junior racing, the Haas driver ran out of money and had to go and earn money by working in a factory. He was then able to afford racing again and carried on his journey into Formula 1.
"Yes, I started a normal job there," Magnussen said to AutoMotorUndSport when asked about his journey to F1. "This has made motorsport even more appreciated. And I've learned that there's nothing wrong with hard work in a factory.
"You can have fun in all professions as long as you do what you like to do. My love was for motorsport. Of course, I was sad that suddenly I could not race anymore. Luckily, that was only three or four months away. Then came a Danish sponsor that gave me a place in the European Formula Renault 2.0. My dream went on.
"Then I was accepted by McLaren in the junior squad. And then the rest came up."
Magnussen's journey is inspiring and a reminder that not all drivers get into the sport with ease. It is a massive achievement to be in the sport at all, let alone getting solid results.
