Kelly Piquet explains her absence: 'In this I can only rely on myself'

Kelly Piquet was in Monza to cheer on Max Verstappen at the Italian Grand Prix, along with her daughter Penelope. New York Fashion Week is normally a busy week for the Brazilian but that doesn't seem to be the case in 2024. She explains why she is not there on Instagram: daughter 'P' has her first day of school on Monday.

"A lot of DMs [direct messages] asking why I'm not at NYFW [New York Fashion Week], and the short answer is: a very anxious little girl starts school today!!! It was my utmost priority to stay with her during this very important time. There is nowhere I'd rather be than here with her," wrote Verstappen's girlfriend.

"As a single parent, I can only rely on myself to make sure everything is prepared and organised, giving P the emotional support, even if it means saying no to multiple paying jobs and trips. That's a sacrifice as a parent that needs to be made, and I will never think twice. There will always be another fashion week but there will never be another very first day of school," Piquet concluded.
