James Key has admitted Honda's confidence has been boosted since joining Toro Rosso. Perhaps it was the constant calls from Fernando Alonso in the McLaren of "how slow is this car" that damaged their confidence levels in the past.
Toro Rosso and Honda have been working closely together and producing better results. They upgraded the engine at Canada and hope to do the same later this season. They've since done a deal with Red Bull next season.
"I think Honda was mainly waiting for fresh input. If you look at how much resources they have in the factory, it certainly does not lie about missing heavy artillery in that area ", Key explains on the website of Toro Rosso.
"Obviously, we came up with their knowledge of another engine and knew what was and what was not possible, something that I think they did not have before", the technical manager refers to the cooperation between Honda and McLaren.
"You already see that in having more confidence to try things. Previously, they rather played it cautiously, while they now dare to take that extra step to possibly get a little more. If that line continues, then very nice things can come of it ", Key predicts.
