Due to the radical changes in Formula 1 due to the coronavirus, the revenues of the teams have been frozen. For a smaller team like Williams this can have far-reaching consequences. Nico Hülkenberg doesn't think it's such a crazy plan to let drivers surrender part of their salary.
Williams announced this measure earlier and decided to cut their drivers, George Russell and Nicholas Latifi on their salaries. Former F1-driver Hülkenberg thinks it is only logical that the drivers also have to make some sacrifices, he says opposite Auto Motor und Sport.
"It's easy for me to talk along the sidelines, but I think that the drivers need to support their teams right now. The companies are fighting to survive."

Everyone has to give in

The former Renault driver explains himself further and makes the comparison: "Professional footballers also settle for less salary. Not that everyone has to do that, that would be unfair to the team members who have a normal income and normal expenses".

"The people on the team who make more and have a bigger buffer should also be a little more generous. Drivers are therefore also obliged to make some sacrifices", the German concludes.
