Horner wants to continue partnership with Honda: 'We are discussing it'

Honda has officially left Formula 1 as Red Bull Racing's engine supplier, but after Max Verstappen's world title, it is proving difficult for both parties to part ways. This year the Japanese engine manufacturer continues to supply the team with a power source, but team boss Christian Horner hopes that the partnership can continue in the coming years.

Honda remains closely involved to guide the team through the transition to Red Bull Powertrains, which is to take over Honda's engine project entirely in 2023. Horner hopes that this collaboration can continue into 2023 and beyond.

"Honda have been tremendously good to us by allowing us to continue using their technology," Horner says in conversation with GQ Magazine. According to the Red Bull team boss, this has worked well, especially in the transition to the new E10 fuel. "As far as ’23, ’24, ’25 is concerned, we’re in discussions with Honda about continuing the existing relationship that we currently enjoy."

For the new regulations in 2026, Horner thinks it is important to have as much as possible in-house, without depending on other parties. He stresses that apart from Ferrari, Red Bull will be the only Formula One team to have all its activities under one roof. "That’s tremendously exciting and I think will definitely deliver a benefit," concludes the Red Bull team boss.
