After the eventful second Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring, not only Verstappen's absolute dominance will be remembered, but also the deluge of time penalties. Christian Horner was critical towards the FIA afterwards, and feared a new trend of penalties will occur in the premier class of motorsport.
Looking back at the time penalties for Lando Norris and Sergio Perez, who both made a similar defensive move on track, Horner believes the FIA should have taken a less severe approach to the moments. "I did feel that maybe the incidents that we did see could have been leant to more racing incidents than been deserving of penalties", the team boss said in conversation with Motorsport.com
Horner does nuance this, however, stating that the tasks of the race committee are constantly under a magnifying glass: "I know it's incredibly difficult, because we talk about these things very often, and it’s difficult for the race director."
Expanding his reasoning, the Brit cites a term from the world of football: "You don't want the equivalent of footballers taking a dive. I think we need to avoid that."
