Christian Horner analyzed the qualifying performance of the two Red Bull drivers, with Max Verstappen set to start from third place in tomorrow's race, while a disappointing Yuki Tsunoda will line up all the way at the back of the grid.
Christian Horner experienced a decidedly two-faced qualifying session in Spain today. While an unbeatable McLaren once again asserted its supremacy, Max Verstappen managed to minimize the damage by securing an important third place and will start from the second row alongside George Russell.
While Verstappen managed to save face for the Milton Keynes team, the same cannot be said for Yuki Tsunoda, who was eliminated in Q1 with the twentieth and slowest time. The Japanese driver will therefore be forced to start from the back of the grid, hoping to fight his way up into at least the top 10.
Interviewed by ViaPlay, the team principal of Leamington-Spa spoke about the qualifying performance of his two drivers and the gap with McLaren: ''Honestly, I thought it would be 3 tenths. It was exactly 3 tenths. well done to Oscar and Lando. They've looked out the front row. We're best at the rest, of course it's a long race tomorrow and strategically there'll be some options in there. So, of course a very long run down to turn one''
Speaking of Tsunoda's unexplainable poor performance, Horner addes: ''He struggled all weekend and we went up a little bit on the downforce to try and help him but yeah it's difficult to understand that so I'll have to have a good look into it. He's gonna have to make up quite a few places for that''.
