After Honda decided to withdraw from Formula 1, Red Bull Racing decided to build its own engine. Honda continued to help with the project, and from 2026 Ford will be the manufacturer to help build the engine. It has now been revealed that Honda will return to Formula 1 in 2026, by supplying engines to Aston Martin from 2026. Despite that, the Japanese engine manufacturer has made a promise to Red Bull.
The Red Bull Powertrains project is going very well so far. The RB19 has good straight-line speed, and so they will be very pleased at the Austrian racing stable. Helmut Marko tells Motorsport-Magazin that it was a brave decision to go his own way, but that he is satisfied: "At the moment Red Bull Powertrains is doing very well. We are on track. All the engines that have already been built are more or less at the level you would expect."

Promise from Honda

Honda is collaborating on Max Verstappen's team's engine until 2025. According to Helmut Marko, Honda has made a promise to Red Bull: "We have received written assurances that nothing will change in terms of priority until 2025 and that they - like us - will still work with full commitment to win more World Championships."
