Red Bull Junior driver hopes for F1 seat: 'I know what I have to do'

Red Bull Junior driver Dennis Hauger is aiming for a seat in Formula 1. In an interview with Motorsport.com the Formula 2 driver discusses his chances in the competition and the opportunities he has within Red Bull.

The Red Bull Junior Academy is probably the most successful training programme currently operating in Formula 1. Its most successful alumni are undoubtedly Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen, and Daniel Ricciardo could also count on successes once he was promoted to the main team. Current F1 drivers Alexander Albon, Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda also have their roots in the Red Bull Junior Academy, although they do not quite have the same track record as the multiple world champions.

So it has been a while since a real success story emerged from the Red Bull Junior track. Nevertheless, Hauger hopes he can be the team's next Formula 1 star.

Hauger will face tough competition in Formula 2 this year, though. Quite apart from drivers like Theo Pourchaire, who has already proven himself, Hauger will have to compete against no less than five other Red Bull Junior drivers. Doing well in Formula 2 will not be enough for Hauger: above all, he must also do better than his Red Bull Junior Academy peers.

"[Helmut] Marko has not really formulated a concrete goal for me this season, but of course you know what you have to do," Hauger said. "Liam Lawson was third in the championship last year and he didn't get the chance right away, so based on that you do know that you really have to do something special to qualify for Formula 1."
