Lewis Hamilton does not agree that a tyre blanket ban should happen. According to the former world champion, we are waiting for an accident if this proposal goes ahead.
Hamilton calls it "dangerous" not to warm up the tyres before using them on the track. "I tested tyres without the blankets," he said at Motorsportweek. "At some point an incident is going to happen. I think it is a wrong decision."
By no longer using tyre warmers, Formula 1 will be greener and more sustainable. At least, that is the argument. Hamilton knows better: "In fact, we are just burning more fuel to get the tyres up to temperature. After all, it takes a lot more laps to get the tyres in the right window."

More crashes?

The seven-time world champion thinks we will see more incidents in the future if the proposal, likely to be voted on after the British Grand Prix, comes through. "The biggest concern is that with cold tyres you are actually skating. If someone else already has the tyres up to temperature, it could cause collisions. It's a pointless exercise."
