Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he sent Alex Albon a private message to apologise for coliding with the youngster which cost him his first-ever podium in Brazil. The 23-year-old was running in second place when he was hit by Hamilton, which resulted in him finishing in 14th.
The 34-year-old took full responsibility post-race, immediately going over to the rookie, before sending him another message after the race in Brazil.
"There were a lot of positives there, with the negative being the crash but really on the global outlook of the situation it was a good weekend," Albon told Racer.
"It hurts but there will be plenty more chances in the future. Even Lewis was really good about it — he sent me a message on DMs so he was very apologetic."
Albon has performed admirably since making the step up to Aston Martin Red Bull Racing from Toro Rosso midway through the season and is up to eighth in the standings with one race remaining.
