Lewis Hamilton has been dominant in Canada in the past but the Brit couldn't quite put his stamp on the qualifying this year, as he only finished fourth.
Hamilton was hoping to conquer a record seventh pole position in Montréal, but he'll have to do with a spot on the second row of the grid behind Max Verstappen.
The four-time champion singles out a single corner as the main cause for his lack of pace.
"On Friday the car balance was great into [Turn] 10," he explained to Sky Sports F1.
"Usually, the last sector is my strongest at this track but I was just struggling.

"There's a massive bumps into Turn 10.
"Constantly today going into that corner I was struggling to get the car stopped, be it front locking or rear locking, so it was quite messy.
"Definitely just in that corner alone it was pole position for sure."
Still, Hamilton fancies his chances for the race on Sunday.
"Our long runs were really good.

"It will be interesting to see how the Red Bull does as well, so hopefully we can progress and apply the pressure."
