Hamilton disappointed with Honda's departure: 'Still a long way to go'

Honda's departure was mainly hinged on a more sustainable future, and that is not the first time we have heard this. According to Lewis Hamilton, Honda's departure is therefore a clear signal for Formula 1.

Formula 1 has had hybrid engines since 2014, which was an intermediate step after years of an internal combustion engine. It is, however, an interim solution to an even greener future, but because of the regulations that will be in place until 2026, F1 will not be able to change course quickly.

''I understand that Honda is leaving. I have not read about it, but I have understood a vague idea behind their departure. It is certainly a pity to see them leave. However, it shows that as a sport we still have a long way to go to have a more positive impact on the planet," Hamilton according to Racefans.net.

According to the six-time world champion, Mercedes are already looking to the future. ''When you see what kind of goals Mercedes has for the future, you know that it is the responsibility of the sport to push the industry forward technologically towards more innovations,'' said the Brit.

''There have to be changes, that's for sure. However, I think Mercedes has shown that they are part of this change and are increasingly pushing technology. I think that is very important," concluded Hamilton. For example, last year Formula 1 also announced that the sport should be carbon neutral by 2030.
