Romain Grosjean is still hoping for a dignified farewell to Formula One. The Frenchman left the sport after 2020 to then race in the IndyCar Series, but a violent crash before the end of the season prevented him from saying goodbye to F1 in the way he wanted.
Grosjean said goodbye to Formula 1 in 2020 in terrible fashion. The Frenchman crashed very hard into the wall at the Bahrain Grand Prix and due to his injuries was unable to drive the last two Grands Prix of that year. Toto Wolff and Mercedes later said that they wanted to provide a dignified farewell for Grosjean.

Testing for Mercedes in France

The Frenchman was supposed to test the 2019 Mercedes prior to the 2021 French GP, but due to a shift in the calendar, this test could never take place. Grosjean was still in contact with Wolff after Abu Dhabi. "He replied, said thank you, then the last sentence was ‘We need to get you in that car this year.’ So yes, it’s still on the cards," Grosjean said according to MotorsportWeek.com.
Unfortunately for Grosjean, the farewell will not be during the 2022 French Grand Prix, as the former Haas F1 driver will be racing with Andretti in Iowa at that time. Furthermore, Grosjean said that his goal now is to win races with his new IndyCar team.
