'Grands Prix of Belgium and France may team up to stay on F1 calendar'

By 2023, Formula 1 aims to have the maximum number of 24 races on the calendar. Despite that large number, there is not enough space for all current and future venues and so at least one race will have to go. The Grands Prix of Belgium, Monaco and France would be in jeopardy, but a solution may be available.

The five-year agreement with the Paul Ricard circuit expires after this year, but the circuit is keen to retain the French Grand Prix. According to Motorsportweek.com, the organization is looking for a special agreement in which a number of circuits are rotated and thus alternate annually on the F1 calendar.

This may also include a solution for the Belgian Grand Prix. Auto, Motor und Sport reports that the Spa-Francorchamps circuit may have to fall back on a similar deal whereby a Grand Prix would take place every two years.

The contract of the Monaco Grand Prix also expires after 2022, but according to AMUS, the traditional event can count on a special deal. For this, however, the circuit would have to surrender several privileges, including the low entry fee and the display of self-determined sponsors.
