Will this Grand Prix make a return to the F1 calendar?

The 2024 Formula 1 calendar will have 24 races. It's planned to be a record-breaking stint, and the schedule is full. The interest of organisers has not diminished: many countries are keen to add a Grand Prix to the calendar as well. So is South Korea, which hopes to make a return to F1.

The GP of South Korea was held four times from 2010 to 2013. The first edition was won by Fernando Alonso on behalf of Ferrari, while subsequent editions were all won by Sebastian Vettel with Red Bull Racing.

The F1 race in South Korea was held at the Korea International Circuit in Yeongam. Initially, there was a seven-year deal with an option to extend for another five years. However, the organisation was plagued by financial problems and failed to become profitable, resulting in the early cancellation.

The country is again said to be interested in hosting a Grand Prix, this time in Incheon, near the capital Seoul. This is a report made by Hankyung newspaper, the Korea Economic Daily. The plan is to build a new motorsport complex on Yeongjong Island, which is also home to Incheon Airport. The proposed permanent circuit is to be surrounded by tourist attractions such as restaurants, hotels and shops.
