The Mexico Grand Prix could be a thing of the past in Formula 1 sooner rather than later, with the local goverment deciding to end its funding for the race event from 2020 onwards.
The Mexico race returned to the F1 calendar in 2015; and has been extremely popular since its return - probably rated as one of the most exciting races by the majority of the fans.
Its contract with F1 expires at the end of 2019, and it is the only race to not have signed an extension whose contract is up at the end of this year.
Reports in Mexico have now claimed that the local government have decided to cut funding for the event beyond this year's event.
"For 2020, the federal government has no longer committed this resource," Head of Government for Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum told El Financiero, quoted by Fi.com.

"It is earmarking most of the funds to the completion of the Mayan tourist train or the Mayan train."
So, it looks as if the well-received Mexican Grand Prix won't be with us after 2019, but we'll be hoping for its return again sometime in the future!
